It’s been a week since Lexi overheard Coby talking with his agent and she’d managed to keep their conversations strictly on a professional note. He’d tried to talk to her but she always found a way to dismiss him without making it seem like she was trying to. She knew she would have to talk to him eventually, moreover she had no business eavesdropping. She just couldn’t shake off that twig of annoyance knowing he saw what they had as mere fun. Or maybe what she thought they had.
She dragged herself out of bed and sauntered into her bathroom. She filled the tub with warm water, mixing it with lavender shower gel and honey scented bath oil. Slowly, she lowered herself into the tub, savoring the feeling as it slowly swallowed her up until she was fully immersed in it. Sighing, she rested her head on the edge of the tub and closed her eyes.
Thoughts and pictures of Coby immediately popped up; as it has all week. She forced her eyes open trying effortlessly to think of something else except him. Meg was practically dragging her out tonight because she didn’t want her staying home alone. Personally, she’d rather just curl up on the sofa eating popcorn and watching a movie; maybe “Just Wright”. God! She loved that movie, she smiled at the irony of the almost similar situation. Ryan was bringing along his friend Jake, and Meg has been going on and on about him. She knew that was their own way of trying to make her happy, setting her up with someone. She appreciated the thought but not so much the blind date. She figured she could oblige them once, to get Meg off her back atleast.
“Lex! Ryan will be here in an hour” she heard Meg call out to her.
She had lost track of time in the tub, again. Always seems to happen to her. She stands and rinses off with the shower and grabbed her shower coat as she stepped out the tub.
“I’ll be ready soon” she replied to Meg as she stepped into her room.
An hour later, she stood in front of her mirror looking at herself, wondering when things got so bad that she was going on a blind date.
“You look gorgeous Lex. Jake will be totally smitten” Ryan said behind her.
Turning she smiled and hugged him. Reaching for her purse, she walked out of the room with him and down the stairs to the living room. On entering, she saw someone whom she guessed must be Jake. He had a bronze coloured hair and appeared cute from the angle she was standing. He looked tall and from his body could tell he never missed gym hours. He turned towards her then and his cobalt blue eyes were fixed on her, and as his lips curved into a smile, she found herself smiling back.
Jake was totally smitten with the sight before him. Meg and Ryan had told him she was pretty but nothing they said efficiently described her. Her hair was packed up in a ponytail, accentuating her eyes and lips. The white gown she wore, was molded unto her body and made you wish every female dressed like that. And that smile. “Wow” Was all he could think.
Ryan did the introductions and they all left for dinner. They opted for steak, medium rare with sauce and white wine. After the dinner, they ordered dessert and though Jake was nice and easy to talk to, she didn’t feel that connection with him.
Hours later, they decided to make an appearance for Jake’s friend that was opening his new night club. On getting there, she pushed all thoughts of Coby out of her head and decided to have fun. Minutes later after downing some shots she was ready to dance and dragged Jake to the dance floor. She kept taking shots and dancing, she even flirted with him.
“I’ll like to see you again Lexi” said Jake
“Shsssh, just dance” she said as she placed her index finger on his lips.
Smiling he kissed her knuckles and just as she wrapped her hands around him, she felt someone drag her by the hand out of the club. Jake started to go after them but Meg pulled him back and told him that it was okay.
“What’s wrong with you?” She asked pulling her hand out of his once they were outside. She was secretly thankful for the feel of fresh air on her face.
“Considering I’m not drinking my socks off and making out with some random girl I think I’m perfectly fine” he was really trying to hold in his rage but she barely noticed.
“He is not a stranger, and I can handle my liquor”
“Not from what I just saw. What are you doing here with that dude?”
“I’m allowed to have fun too. And that’s Meg and Ryan’s friend. We are all here together, plus I owe you no explanation” with that she turned to leave.
“Dammit!” He swore and drew her back.
“Why have you been avoiding me Lex?” he asked looking grim.
Uh oh. Not today. She simply didn’t have the energy for this and her head was starting to hurt. She suddenly started to feel drowsy and faint. One look at her told him he had to get her off her feet and instinct had him carrying her to his car. She didn’t even have the strength to fight so she lay still. She felt him help her into the car and then buckle her seatbelt. Next thing he was buckling his and driving off.
“Where are you taking me?” She asked.
“You obviously need rest. I’m taking you home, to my house”.
She started to unbuckle her seatbelt, and fought off his hand when he tried to calm her down.
“Stop that dammit!” He swore. “You’d kill us both if you keep resisting. I just want to make sure you are safe”.
She scoffed. “Safe? In your bed?”
“Lexi, I’d never touch you in this state. When I’m inside you, I want you to feel every bit of it and most especially never forget. Now shut up and sit still”.
She couldn’t move even if she wanted to. His words stilled her and though she wanted to hate him, she couldn’t. She was completely in love with him. How was she going to handle this? With that thought she drifted off to sleep; and dreamt of him, making love to her on the bank of a river at dusk with the moon shining brightly upon him as he took her.
